Founded in 1853, named after Henry Hastings Sibley, and incorporated on March 7, 1857, Hastings is a city in Minnesota, United States. It is within Dakota County and Washington County and serves as the seat of Dakota County. The city is located close to the state border with Wisconsin, at the junction of St. Croix River, Vermillion River, and Mississippi River. U.S. Highway 61 and Minnesota State Highways 55 and 316 are major highways that run through the city.

There are beautiful historic buildings and landmarks in Hastings, including the Dakota County Courthouse which was built in 1871. Hastings High School, founded in 1866, is one of the oldest public high schools in Minnesota. Hastings Rail Bridge spanning the Mississippi River was opened in 1981 and was designed by Howard, Needles, Tammen & Bergendoff. Other points of interest in Hastings include the East Second Street Commercial Historic District, Vermillion Falls Park, Lock and Dam No. 2, and the West Second Street Residential Historic District.
